Larkhall Thistle v Bellshill 14th December 2013

Jags players troop off

Thistle were once again without several key players, this week’s new casualties were keeper Davie McEwan who hurt himself at work and Mark Canning who was sick as they took on league leaders Bellshill in atrocious conditions. The wind and rain made it impossible to play any real football and in the end the visitors coped better with the circumstances.

  1. Just found out that ( unless I missed it ) that our ex-striker Peter Boyle passed away earlier this year in Australia at the early age of 61.
Photos of him on this website, part of the 72 team who won the Dryborough Cup.
Gained 1 Cap for Australia after emigrating; played Senior here for Clyde.

  2. Just noticed this comment Peter Boyle was a striker in keeping with the many great finishers the Jags have had in their long history. His strike partner was also called Boyle .Big Davie Boyle was in the twilight of his career when he played with us and had a tremendous influence on his namesake Peter. Sad to read that Peter is no loger with us.

    1. Correct.
Davie also died some years ago at the young age of 56.
Peter was a great finisher, we were 2-0 down to Cumnock at Yoker in the Dryborough semi-final when he netted a second-half hat-trick.
Used to intimidate his opponent by less than friendly remarks, such as ” Ive got a chib down my socks “
