Despite assuring themselves of staying in the First Division with the win over St Anthony’s in midweek, Thistle didn’t down tools and played their part in what was one of the highest scoring games of the whole league season. A nightmare of a game for defensive purists but it kept the majority of the crowd entertained until the final whistle.
Thistle had lost the reverse fixture in Wishaw just a few weeks ago and so there was no chance that they were going to underestimate today’s opponents, despite their position near the foot of the table.
Thistle had won the reverse fixture at Fullerton Park earlier in the season and looked to be well on the way to winning this one too until a great fightback by Vale saw the game end in a disappointing draw.
Some video highlights:
It was a day that the result was always better than the performance, in a game that was spoiled by the high winds Thistle ran away with the second half and finished comfortable winners.
Video highlights, missed the Ashfield goal
Thistle and Carluke provided an all action game that had the fans of both sides entertained until the final whistle, but once again the referee was at the centre of the action as he sent off two from Carluke as well as the almost inevitable one from Larkhall.

Larkhall Thistle had a stand at today’s History of Larkhall exhibition, sales of Jags merchandise like the above went really well. The real winners on a bad day for the Jags were committe men Hugh Kerr and Levi McPhee who stayed behind to man the stall and answer a flood of questions throughout the day, at least they managed to avoid the shambles in Lanark.
Check back later for a few clips from the game.
After the high point of the season last time out when Thistle beat league leaders Bellshill convincingly, a game against second bottom Wishaw looked to be an easier task on paper but once again things didn’t entirely go to plan.
There are a couple of video clips of the game in the match report, fairly poor quality for speed of upload to Youtube but the match highlights will be available here soon, check back later if you want to see them.

Thistle were without Hugh Kelly for the visit of runaway league leaders Bellshill but could take some heart from the reverse fixture earlier in the season when the teams drew 3-3 in a game they could well have won.
Thistle got back to work on St Valentine’s Day against a Renfrew team which was chasing third spot in the table. The result was the same as the home game with Frew at Gasworks Park but the Jags fans won’t be queueing up to shower referee Mr McTeirnan with red roses after this display.
Thistle’s game with league leaders Bellshill has been called off due to the weather.
The friendly with Pollok which was pencilled in as a possible replacement has also been postponed.
Next fixture is Wishaw away on Saturday, kick off 2:00pm.
