Scottish Cup 1st Round Draw

Thistle have been drawn at home to Haddington Athletic in the first round of the Scottish Cup. Haddington play in the East Premier League, the division below the Superleague and are currently sitting sixth after five games. It will be a stiff test for the Jags as the two teams look fairly evenly matched on paper.

As commented by regular poster Exiled, Thistle lost 3-1 there in the Scottish Cup in 1970 when they had a very good team and a massive support, the round after beating Preston Athletic (now a Senior team) 4-0 at Prestonpans.

The tie takes place on Saturday 26th September at Gasworks Park.

Igloo sponsorship

Larkhall Thistle have great pleasure in announcing they have agreed a two year sponsorship deal with Igloo, Lanarkshire’s number one estate agent. As part of the deal Igloo’s name and logo will appear on all Thistle jerseys and rain jackets. Igloo will also have advertising space in the match programme and at the ground. The club would like to thank Kevin and his team for their support in what we trust will be a beneficial partnership over the two years.

Sectional League Cup

Thistle failed to qualify for the quarter finals by 1 goal with Lanark United going through to the quarter finals after beating Royal Albert 6-0 at Stonehouse.

Thistle have noone to blame but themselves with a poor display at Lanark and many missed chances at Lesmahagow.

On to the league with a tough start away to Rossvale at Petershill’s Park on Saturday.

Lesmahagow v Larkhall Thistle, Sectional League Cup

Lesmahagow v Larkhall Thistle

Thistle went in to what was shaping up to be a showdown for the Section 1 title and came out on top in what was a surprisingly one-sided contest. The result leaves the Jags waiting for Saturday’s fixtures to see if they are overhauled by either Lanark or Gow on goal difference.

Lanark United v Larkhall Thistle Sectional League Cup

Lanark v Larkhall Thistle 1

Thistle travelled to Lanark for Game 3 of the Sectional League Cup and even though the hosts were poor in the league last season, the Jags must have expected much more of a test than Wednesday’s easy win against Forth.

So it proved to be and Section 1 is now wide open with everybody except the Albert in with a chance of winning it.

Video highlights

Larkhall Thistle 7 Forth Wanderers 2

Thistle blew a poor Forth team away with a seven goal second half blitz to run out easy winners in a game where they were never really troubled. The only surprise was the visitors taking a lead into half time but it was just the jolt the Jags needed.
