Thistle made the trip to Petershill to play league new boys Rossvale for the first ever time – and must have wished they hadn’t bothered.
There was no video for the Sectional League Cup game at Lesmahagow due to battery failure but a minute of the early actoin has survived, including one of the best team goals Thistle have scored this season.
Thistle have been drawn at home to Haddington Athletic in the first round of the Scottish Cup. Haddington play in the East Premier League, the division below the Superleague and are currently sitting sixth after five games. It will be a stiff test for the Jags as the two teams look fairly evenly matched on paper.
As commented by regular poster Exiled, Thistle lost 3-1 there in the Scottish Cup in 1970 when they had a very good team and a massive support, the round after beating Preston Athletic (now a Senior team) 4-0 at Prestonpans.
The tie takes place on Saturday 26th September at Gasworks Park.
Larkhall Thistle have great pleasure in announcing they have agreed a two year sponsorship deal with Igloo, Lanarkshire’s number one estate agent. As part of the deal Igloo’s name and logo will appear on all Thistle jerseys and rain jackets. Igloo will also have advertising space in the match programme and at the ground. The club would like to thank Kevin and his team for their support in what we trust will be a beneficial partnership over the two years.
Thistle failed to qualify for the quarter finals by 1 goal with Lanark United going through to the quarter finals after beating Royal Albert 6-0 at Stonehouse.
Thistle have noone to blame but themselves with a poor display at Lanark and many missed chances at Lesmahagow.
On to the league with a tough start away to Rossvale at Petershill’s Park on Saturday.
Thistle went in to what was shaping up to be a showdown for the Section 1 title and came out on top in what was a surprisingly one-sided contest. The result leaves the Jags waiting for Saturday’s fixtures to see if they are overhauled by either Lanark or Gow on goal difference.
(No video of the game due to technical difficulties, sorry)
As most people will have heard, the club are in the process of becoming a community club in conjunction with Larkhall United.
All the teams from youth level through to the full amateur team will play under the the name of Larkhall Thistle and will eventually play in the famous red and white stripes.
To this end the club are holding an EGM on Sunday 13th September at 11am to discuss changes to the club constitution.
Thistle travelled to Lanark for Game 3 of the Sectional League Cup and even though the hosts were poor in the league last season, the Jags must have expected much more of a test than Wednesday’s easy win against Forth.
So it proved to be and Section 1 is now wide open with everybody except the Albert in with a chance of winning it.
Thistle blew a poor Forth team away with a seven goal second half blitz to run out easy winners in a game where they were never really troubled. The only surprise was the visitors taking a lead into half time but it was just the jolt the Jags needed.
Thistle manager Duncan Sinclair has added the following players to the squad:
Bryan Felvus is a 29 year old striker with senior experience with Annan Athletic and junior with Cumnock, Newmains and Forth Wanderers.
Joshua Payne is a 17 year old forward who played with Airdrie United.
Declan Docherty is a 19 year old defender whose previous club was Blantyre Soccer Academy.
We welcome the guys to the club and they enjoy their time with the Jags
