Larkhall Thistle v Darvel 25th October 2014

summary
Thistle began their Scottish Cup campaign in the second round today after getting a bye in the first. The two teams looked fairly evenly matched on paper and the bookies couldn’t separate them either, but the Jags had gone out of the cup to Ayrshire opposition in each of the last three seasons so this was going to be a difficult task.

Larkhall Thistle 5 Partick Thistle Select 1

Thistle had a bye in the New Coins Cup so they took on the young lads of Partick in a friendly and ran out convincing winners. The visitors had a couple of highly promising looking players but Larkhall’s physical presence played a big part in the end. Thistle took an early lead when Mark McKeever was presented with the ball right in front of goal and picked his spot then Ryan Innes made it 2-0 at half time when he swept in a knock down from Mark Canning.

After the break Canning got on the score sheet himself with a pot shot when the ball dropped to him at the edge of the box and he stuck it in the top corner. Graham Gracie set up Scott Nichol for the fourth with an unselfish ball after a great run down the left before wrapping up the scoring himself with a side foot across the keeper into the bottom corner.

Partick to their great credit never stopped plugging away and got a consolation with almost the last kick of the ball with a tidy finish round Jags keeper McAlpine after a good through ball.

Larkhall Thistle starting team:
McAlpine; Reynolds, Brown, Marshall, McPhee; Innes, Pirlo, Canning, Cooke; McKeever, McGeachie. Subs (all used at half-time): Gracie, Reid, Jack, Reynolds

Euroscot Eng Cup Final

The club are delighted to announce that the Euroscot Eng Cup final between Cumbernauld United and Blantyre Victoria will take place on Sunday 2nd November at Gasworks Park, kick off 2:30pm.

The club would like to thank the West Region of the SJFA for selecting our ground to host this final. The date is subject to change should either of the finalists draw in their Scottish Cup ties the previous Saturday, which would mean a replay on 1st November.

Lee Moss

Larkhall Thistle goalkeeper Lee Moss
Lee Moss

Larkhall Thistle would like to thank Lee Moss, who has been released by the club, for all his efforts. Lee has been a great servant over the last few years, standing in for Davie McEwan and turning up each week to provide cover despite the fact that the big man was one of the best goalkeepers in the juniors and never letting the club down on the occasions that he was called into action. We wish him all the best for the future.

Carluke Rovers v Larkhall Thistle 11th October 2014

summary

Thistle made the short journey across the Clyde to the astroturf at Carluke Rovers’s John Cumming Stadium not exactly in the best of spirits after a 3-0 loss at Lesmahagow last time out. There were a few changes to the team but it didn’t really go according to plan at first, fortunately there was enough time to turn it round.

Lesmahagow v Larkhall Thistle 4th October 2014

Thistle travelled to Lesmahagow’s newly opened Craighead Park as bookies underdogs for this tie against the early pace-setters and fully lived up to their billing as Gow got revenge for their 3-0 defeat at Gasworks Park in the Sectional League Cup.

After the game, Lesmahagow go top of the league with 5 straight wins, while Thistle will be more concerned about staying in the division.
