After a horrendous trip due to roadworks on the A77 a much changed Thistle team opened there league campaign at a sunny but windy Girvan. Thistle opened strongly with Bartek coming close from a Billy Wilson corner. Thistle continued to push Graham Gracie had the ball in the net but the referee blew for offside. So far very little had been seen of the home as an attacking force but they nearly went ahead when their no9 was allowed to continue when blatantly offside with the post saving the Jags. Bartek then came close as did Graham Gracie with a snap shot that just cleared the post. The home keeper then had a tremendous save fro a Jack Currie shot.. The same player then hit the crossbar with a tremendous drive with the the netbound shot being headed of the line by a Girvan defender. After a fine move involving Warren Grenfell and Taylor Scott , Warren failed to net the return cross from Taylor. Girvan then raced up the other end and their no.11 should have done better with his final header. With half time approaching Warren Grenfell and Graham Gracie had further opportunities but failed to capitalise .
Unbelievably half time Girvan Juniors 0 Larkhall Thistle 0
Thistle started on the offensive and the Girvan keeper had to be alert to stop a Jack Currie shot. David Cherrie then had a great stop when it looks odds on the home team would take the lead. However Thistle finally took the lead with a fine Jack Currie finish set up by Taylor Scott. The visitors then increased their lead further when Taylor Scott disposed the Girvan no 3 and found Graham Gracie who netted from close in . At this stage Thistle were in complete control but for some strange reason took their foot off the gas and paid the price when Girvan were awarded a penalty one of the few decision today’s referee got correct which brought the home team back into the game and gave them a boost. It was therefore no surprise when they equalised with the visiting supporters having visions of the game here last year when Thistle lost a similar lead and subsequently the game itself. However this is a different group of players and they came storming back with Taylor Scott netting with a fine drive and Birthday boy Jack Currie netting a second with about 8 minutes of the 90 left. The home team netted yet again and the referee somehow managed to find 7 minutes injury time but the Jags held out to collect their opening 3 points of the league season.
Once again the players gave everything but on his birthday Jack Currie was outstanding.
