Lesmahagow 2 Larkhall Thistle 3 – 25th April 2016

Craighead Park, Lesmahagow
Lesmahagow v Larkhall Thistle
Central League First Division

No detailed match report from this game as myself and Ian were not at tonight’s game.

Thistle were looking to bounce back from a disappointing performance at champions-elect Renfrew in which they had failed to create much in the way of chances and extended their poor run to only one win in eight games. Despite the fact that it is highly unlikely, the Jags still need points to be mathematically sure of safety. As it turned out, this was the night that Thistle’s fortunes changed dramatically.

Larkhall manager Dunky Sinclair made several changes to personnel and positions from the team that lost at Renfrew on Saturday, David Thomson was replaced by his namesake Stuart in goal, Jordan Marshall moved up into his more natural midfield position to replace Brian Jack and was replaced at centre back by Niall Reynolds. Declan Doyle come back in to play full back while Mark McKeever replaced the injured Josh Payne in the wide right position and Matty Clarke filled the striker’s role with Gary McStay dropping out.

Lesmahagow started the game on top and their early pressure paid off as Thistle were soon two goals down inside 15 minutes. The Jags however reponded positively but then proceeded to miss a series of chances that would have been enough to at least level the score before half time.

If ever there was the proverbial game of two halves, this indeed was it. Having looked down and out at half time, Thistle produced a remarkable recovery in the second half to go on and win the game.

It was a completely different story in the second half, and although like the first period the Jags once again created several chances, the difference was that this time they took them.

Substitute Bryan Felvus put Thistle back in the game before David Reid equalised. As the game went on the Jags were increasing looking like the team more likely to win the game and indeed that was to be the case when Ryan Innes scored to give the Jags what was a well deserved victory.
